Solid Modeling

This videotape highlights how solid modeling software is used in the design and manufacturing processes. Interviews and case studies demonstrate how solid modeling helped improve the design of several different products. John MacKrell, CIMdata, explains how the technology evolved and why it was not fully adopted until recently. The first example is Sundberg-Ferar, a design firm who used solids to improve the design of a walker. Another example is from PICO who uses PC-based solids modeling to increase design efficiencies and reduce manufacturing costs. The last example is Chrysler Corporation who is using solid modeling to run finite elements analysis, create prototypes, and design parts. Chrysler is also using solid modeling to help design tooling and program robots inside virtual workcells.
